Het hele proces van vormen, afwerken, coaten of anderszins conserveren van het staal, houd ik ook het liefst in eigen hand. Dat betekent dat het een erg arbeidsintensief proces is, een langzaam ontstaan van de beelden, die steeds meer gedefinieerd raken.

Poëzie en literatuur helpen mij vaak bij het zoeken naar de juiste vorm voor een beeld, maar inspiratie vind ik ook in de natuur. Tijdens de vele lange wandelingen die ik in binnen- en buitenland (al dan niet vanuit artist residencies) maak, kunnen fysieke elementen die ik vind in de natuur leiden tot het ontstaan van een beeld. In mijn staalsculpturen resoneert dan ook vaak de natuur. Vanuit deze organische vormen, waarmee ik graag werk, ontstaan de beelden, soms sober maar altijd krachtig in vorm en betekenis.

Crafting in steel has become more and more central to my work as an artist. My steel sculptures are created through an endless process of welding and grinding; I am modelling with steel, as it were. I therefore like to call myself a sculptor in steel, using fire and grinder to bring the sculptures to life from the unruly material. Ik prefer to keep control of the entire process of shaping, finishing, coating or preserving the steel in any other way. This makes it a very labour-intensive process, a gradual emergence of sculptures becoming increasingly defined. 

Poetry and literature often help me find the right shape for a sculpture, but nature is my true inspiration. During the many long hikes I make both at home and abroad (whether or not from artist residencies), physical elements found in nature may lead to the creation of a piece. As a result, nature often resonates in my steel sculptures. From these organic forms, that I love to work with, the sculptures emerge, sometimes austere but always powerful in their form and meaning.
